What is CDR?

A CDR (Call Detail Record) is the log entry a switch writes for every call attempt, listing who called whom, when, for how long, on which route and with what result.

CDR explained

CDRs are the source of truth for both billing and troubleshooting. A typical record includes the calling and called numbers, start and answer times, billed duration, SIP response code, trunk or route used, and the rate applied. Aggregating CDRs is how ASR, ACD and spend reports are produced.

When you raise a quality ticket, pulling the relevant CDRs first saves time. The Call-ID and exact timestamp let the NOC find the same call on their side and trace it to the downstream carrier.

Example

A CDR line might read: 2026-10-14 09:12:03 · from 14155550100 · to 447700900123 · answered · 184 s · billed 3 min (60/60) · cause 200 OK.
