SIP Trunk Japan — +81 Termination & DID Numbers
Japanese customers tend to trust a local 03 Tokyo or 06 Osaka number far more than an unfamiliar international one. Japan also has 050 IP-phone numbers and two toll-free ranges, 0120 and 0800. Identity checks for numbers are strict, so plan time for paperwork.
Overview
Routing calls to Japan
Whether you are calling a desk phone in Tokyo or a mobile in Yokohama, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Sapporo, the call is routed by the longest matching +81 prefix and sent to the best-performing carrier for that range. When a carrier fails, the next one takes over, and the CDR shows exactly which leg carried the call.
Numbering in Japan is managed by MIC. We terminate to geographic, national, mobile and toll-free ranges and price each one separately on the rate sheet. Inside the country, numbers are dialled with a 0 trunk prefix. Strip it before you send the call, and send 81 followed by the national number.
For inbound numbers in Japan, plan on paperwork: proof of address and company or identity documents are usually required before a DID goes live. Termination needs no documents beyond normal account checks.
