SIP Trunk New Zealand — +64 Termination & DID Numbers
New Zealand is often the first market of the business day, sitting 12 to 13 hours ahead of UTC, which is useful for follow-the-sun support. Freephone uses both 0800 and 0508, and Auckland landlines use area code 09.
Overview
Routing calls to New Zealand
Traffic to New Zealand leaves our SBCs on more than one upstream carrier per prefix. If a leg toward Auckland or Wellington starts returning 503s or long post-dial delay, the next attempt goes to another carrier automatically. Calls to Christchurch, Hamilton and Dunedin follow the same failover logic.
Inside the country, numbers are dialled with a 0 trunk prefix. Strip it before you send the call, and send 64 followed by the national number. On the rate sheet, New Zealand is split into geographic, national, mobile and toll-free prefixes, following the plan set by the national telecom regulator, so your LCR can tell a cheap fixed-line call from a pricier mobile one.
For inbound numbers in New Zealand, plan on paperwork: proof of address and company or identity documents are usually required before a DID goes live. Termination needs no documents beyond normal account checks.
