Connect a SIP trunk to Yeastar
Yeastar calls an IP-authenticated trunk a Peer Trunk and a credential trunk a Register Trunk. Field names below are from the P-Series; S-Series differences are noted.
Before you start
What you need
- Yeastar P-Series (any firmware 37.x+) or S-Series with admin access
- NAT configured under SIP Settings if the PBX is behind a router
- Your SIPTrunkHub account details: SIP server, auth method, tech prefix if any
IP auth or register auth?
IP authentication
Trunk Type: Peer Trunk. We whitelist your public IP. Best for cloud or static-IP installs.
Register (digest) authentication
RecommendedTrunk Type: Register Trunk. Works behind dynamic IPs.
Step by step
Configure Yeastar
sip.example-host.net and 203.0.113.10 are documentation placeholders. Replace them, and the username, password and tech prefix, with the values from your account.
- 01
Add the trunk
P-Series: Extension and Trunk › Trunk › Add. S-Series: Settings › PBX › Trunks › VoIP Trunk › Add.
Basic (field → value) Name .................. SIPTrunkHub ITSP Template ......... General Trunk Type ............ Register Trunk | Peer Trunk Transport ............. UDP Hostname/IP ........... sip.example-host.net : 5060 Domain ................ sip.example-host.net Username .............. YOUR_SIP_USERNAME (register only) Authentication Name ... YOUR_SIP_USERNAME (register only) Password .............. YOUR_SIP_PASSWORD (register only) - 02
Set codecs
On the Codec tab move PCMU, PCMA and G729 to Selected, in that order.
- 03
Set outbound caller ID
On the Outbound Caller ID tab set a default trunk caller ID, or assign per extension. Use E.164 without +.
- 04
Create an outbound route
Call Control › Outbound Call › Add (S-Series: Settings › PBX › Call Control › Outbound Routes). Strip the international prefix and pick the trunk.
Outbound route pattern Pattern ... 00. Strip ..... 2 Prepend ... (blank, or 1234# tech prefix) Trunks .... SIPTrunkHub - 05
Create inbound routes
Call Control › Inbound Call › Add. Choose the trunk, set DID Matching Mode to DID Pattern and enter each DID, then pick the destination.
Media
Codec order
- PCMU/PCMA first for quality, G.729 last.
- Disable codecs you do not use so the offer stays short.
- For fax, enable T.38 under the trunk Advanced tab.
NAT notes
- P-Series: System › Network › Public IP and Ports. S-Series: Settings › PBX › SIP Settings › NAT.
- Set NAT Type to Public IP Address and enter your public IP and local networks.
- Forward SIP and RTP (default 10000–12000) on your router. Disable SIP ALG.
Verify
Test the trunk
The trunk list shows a green status when registered or reachable. Use Maintenance › Troubleshooting › Packet Capture (or Ethernet Capture on S-Series) to grab a trace during a test call.
Troubleshooting
Common SIP errors
What each response means and what to check first on Yeastar. If you still need help, send the Call-ID and timestamp to the NOC.
| Code | Meaning | Likely cause | Fix on Yeastar |
|---|---|---|---|
| 401 | Unauthorized | We challenged the INVITE or REGISTER and the credentials were wrong or missing. With IP auth it usually means the call arrived from an IP we have not whitelisted. | Authentication Name must be filled in as well as Username. Some firmware sends a blank auth name otherwise. |
| 403 | Forbidden | Authenticated, but not allowed: wrong or missing tech prefix, zero prepaid balance, destination blocked on your account, or an invalid caller ID. | Check balance and tech prefix first, then the caller ID format. If both look right, send the Call-ID to the NOC. |
| 404 | Not Found | The dialled number is not in a format we can route: missing country code, an extra 00 or +, or a local trunk prefix left in. | Outbound route Strip is wrong. You should be sending 44..., not 0044... |
| 408 | Request Timeout | No response came back. Usually a firewall, wrong port or transport, a DNS failure, or SIP ALG on the router eating packets. | Confirm UDP/TCP 5060 is open outbound and to 203.0.113.10. Disable SIP ALG. Test with an OPTIONS ping. |
| 480 | Temporarily Unavailable | The far end could not be reached: handset off, out of coverage, or the route for that prefix is temporarily down. | Retry later or route to another trunk. If it hits one prefix repeatedly, send examples to the NOC. |
| 486 | Busy Here | The called party is busy, or you reached the concurrent-channel limit on your account. | Treat as a normal busy. If every call returns 486, check your active channel count against your limit. |
| 503 | Service Unavailable | Capacity limit hit (calls per second or channels), or every route for that destination failed. | Pace your dialer to the agreed CPS. Configure a second trunk for failover. Ask the NOC if it persists. |

FAQ
Yeastar questions
Account Trunk vs Register Trunk on S-Series?
An Account Trunk is the reverse (the far end registers to Yeastar). For SIPTrunkHub use Register Trunk or Peer Trunk.
Can I limit channels per trunk?
Yes. Set Concurrent Calls on the trunk Advanced tab to match your account limit.
Inbound calls are rejected on a Peer Trunk. Why?
Yeastar matches peer traffic by hostname. Ask the NOC for our signalling IPs and add them as additional hostnames.
