What is Non-CLI route?
A non-CLI route is a voice termination route that does not guarantee your caller ID reaches the recipient, in exchange for a lower per-minute rate.
Non-CLI route explained
Along a non-CLI path, one of the carriers may hand the call to the local network in a way that replaces or strips the original number. The call connects and the audio is fine, but the person called may see a different number, "unknown", or nothing at all.
Non-CLI routes suit traffic where the caller ID does not matter, such as retail calling where the recipient expects the call. They are a poor fit for business calls, callbacks and anything where trust in the displayed number affects whether people answer.
Example
A calling-card operator sends personal calls to Bangladesh on a non-CLI route. Recipients see a random local number, but they answer because they were expecting the call.
Put it into practice
Prepaid SIP trunks and wholesale routes from $200. Ask sales for rates or the NOC for a technical answer.
